It has been two weeks since I ran a marathon which has flown by, as the weeks always do. I’ve forcibly told myself to rest up, which has been both good and bad for the reasons I slowed down, but also my concern for picking up habits again, like drinking on weekdays. Forcing myself into this state of slowness has helped me value my energy and reunited me with a new sense of doing! We are escaping to Portugal next week for about 12 days and I cannot wait. I’m looking forward to feeling warm and having a renewed sense of creativity again. I don’t know about you, but when I go on holiday it feels like a reset and I have a million new ideas again. I’ve felt stuck creatively the past few months, work is busy and truth be told it’s easiest to just sit and scroll rather than to create. I thrive on those holiday moments when inspiration strikes and creativity flows freely.
THE VIBE:
sun, nectarines & poetry
READING:
To be a good writer is to be a good reader, and to be a good reader is to be a good listener. I loved poetry at school so I have picked up a few poetry books to help delve into this a bit more. I studied an Irish poet in my A-Level English, and although her work was great to study the curriculum solidified this idea that poetry is reserved strictly for sadness. I picked up Three Poems by Hannah Sullivan and Book of Longing by Leonard Cohen in an attempted to expand my literature pile.
WEARING:
This week the temperature has dropped with an arctic breeze making itself known! I’ve been manifesting spring by wearing my new butter yellow cardigan from He Official and my striped Abercrombie trousers. I admit I haven’t been in an Abercrombie in years, but they’ve had a rebrand from those logomania days. All the best classics with a hint of Cali cool, I love the nostalgia of the noughties surf brands but the classics hold a little more longevity imo.
WANTING:
My current wishlist is mainly consistent of makeup. I always run out of everything all at once. I saw these lip markers from Kiko and they are an immediate need. I used to have a lip marker from Topshop (throwback) and it was my favourite lip colour ever, if I could have it permanently tattooed on my lips, I would. It fell out of my pocket when I was cycling so I repurchased it on depop (desperate times) only to inevitably lose it out of my pocket cycling again.
I am also in search of a good brown mascara and have been contemplating lash slick in brown from glossier. and am very much debating buying the Ganni tie blouse after I borrowed it off a friend for an event the other week. Its soo cute, but over £100 feels like such an investment.
WATCHING:
I’ve been enjoying Moya’s recent vlogs and recently discovered Poppy Almonds channel. I find both channels so calming and love their approach to capturing life on screen. I’ve also been enjoying Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown and Race Across The World. I find so much enjoyment by escaping to other countries on screen for just a short while.
LISTENING:
YouTube playlists have been the soundtrack work week, I love listening to them whilst I work. I love these Re Analogue playlists especially, I wish they could be 6 hours long.
That’s all from me this week! I hope you are all keeping well,
Love,
Lexie xx
