oh how I’ve missed writing on here this month! I was anticipating it being a busy month, but I hadn’t anticipated quite how busy it was going to be. Needless to say, I’m back in full capacity. I feel like I brain dump on here, but here’s a somewhat monthly REPORT. I would like to share more writingy things but I’m not sure what you guys like from me! Let me know what you vibe with and what you don’t <3
THE VIBE:
READING:
I finished ‘Getting Lost’ by Annie Ernaux this month and loved it. The novel is in diary form so it felt quite easy to read.
I just picked up Deborah Levy, ‘Things I don’t want to know’ and I’m already quite the way through it. I feel like I’m making good reading choices this year so far.
Morenike’s substack is my current goto for all things fashion. I met Morenike at an event and immediately was obsessed with her floral Loewe puzzle bag. She totally influenced me to get the Free People barrel jeans and I have not looked back since.
Naomi’s substack and corner of the internet, Tender Contributions is so beautiful. I’m really enjoying her writing and her additions of voice notes to her newsletters, in a world of curated chaos her corner feels calm.
EATING:
This section may be dominated by CPH places but here are some current favs:
Cinnamon Buns from Hart (my local bakery also makes a good cinnamon bun so you bet I’ve been pretending I’m still in CPH ggetting these to go!)
PLAYING:
This month has been about playing with clothes for me. I’m very much on a journey with my wardrobe and style, learning what I like and what makes me feel good. I often find myself in a trap of thinking I have to wear something different everyday, but the reality is its normal to rewear clothes and it’s ok to live in my jeans and tees. Purchase wise, I’ve been considering this jacket from COS and this tee from Lisa Says Gah, they just feel like cute elevated basics. Maybe after pay day lol.
OBSESSING:
Entirely filling this section with my internet muses of rn!
Poppy Almond (everything she wears and does is a vibe, I recently discovered her YouTube for ultimate vibes)
RECOMMENDING:
These silver Russell and Bromley shoes for everyday disco dancing.
This bedding from Dusk
HRI Clear Complexion Tablets (idk how it’s doing it but it’s helping me keep those breakouts at bay!)
Jones Road Beauty- the lip gloss is everything you could ever need
TREATING:
I’m in my self care era, so my treats this month have been less about purchases and more about doing things that make me feel good! I got my brows, hair, nails and laser done and there’s truly no better feeling. In all seriousness, I did see a TikTok about glow up culture and how the quest for perfection can be so negative for the psyche. I was thinking of doing a glow up video on YouTube but I feel like that wont put out the best message, constantly viewing yourself as a project is exhausting and I’m so guilty of thinking, ‘When my hairs grown two inches I’ll be happy’ or ‘once I’ve lost 3kg I’ll feel prettier.’ The reality is, it comes from within. I’m on my self acceptance journey, but we’ll get there.
on that note, here’s some favourite tunes of right now 🤍
catch you soon!
love, lexie x
loved the recommendation of the glow up video. I have also been feeling like this. Exhausted as I always think there is this better version of me out there. Trying to change myself in order to be something we see on the screen. I feel that the glow up culture is also so deeply entrenched in capitalism. So much money is made from this quest for self improvement. It’s a great video rec but only if u are in the right headspace!
Definitely been there with a 'when my hair grows two inches I'll be happy' thought. It more became an obsession that made me feel horrible after a bad bangs experience. Beauty really does come from within. Great read!
