I really love December, it can get quite busy as everyone starts to cram in their last meets of the year, but there’s always an overarching feeling of joy in the air. I love the excitement for a new year and the scheduled slow down time. It makes this dark month a little brighter. This past month has been transformative for me, a lot of highs and lows as I try to reconfigure my plans, who I am and what I want to do. I started the Artist’s Way as recommended by my friend and creative coach Phoebe, (not sure why it has taken me this long or how its never been mentioned in my life before!) and it really has been helping me evaluate and carve a sense of direction. I had been feeling very creatively uninspired, a little overwhelmed and lost (hence the hiatus) but I can safely say the fog is clearing.
DOING:
November was busy with work ramping up before the end of the year and a trip to Paris. I saw Monet’s Water Lilies for the first time, and we spent most of the trip walking miles and enjoying Paris in its glory. I did a lot of window shopping, gathering inspiration mainly. I love the Parisian street style, always so good. My time in London has mainly been spent recovering from a cold and staying cosy at home, we also took a trip to Brighton and stayed in The Grand which was a dream. I love Brighton so much, I miss it when I’m not there.
READING: I read Wintering by Katherine May which has completely transformed my attitude towards the winter months as something to embrace, not to wish away. I have been lighting more candles, drinking more tea and spending less time on my phone.
WEARING:
Neck Scarves and my cropped trench have been an iconic duo for this transitional weather. I caved and bought the Free People Stripe Scarf and have been wearing it almost everyday. I have since found an excellent crochet pattern and have been making them in an array of colours.
LOVING:
Changing the ‘wanting’ section in this post to ‘loving’, in an effort not to promote excessive overconsumption and the narrative of waiting to acquire the wishlist, and being upset that the goal post keeps moving.
I have been loving my Gallinee Cleansing Bar. I used to religiously use a bar of Dove soap when my skin was at its worst (still convinced it cures breakouts) but it can get quite harsh on your skin after a while. The Gallinee Cleansing bar is gentle and doesn’t dry my face out, sustainable and a good price point too.
Surprise Paris Knitwear. I purchased a jumper at their pop up in Paris and I have not taken it off. It’s so cosy and incredibly warm. I want it in 100 colours.
WATCHING:
Devoured Rivals on Disney Plus, it was the perfect easy evening watch.
Buy Now in Netflix has me evaluating my consumption attitudes. I recently saw a video that said that all the things you’ve even owned still exist and all the things you need you have. Even as someone who’s consumption seems ‘normal’, the scale and volume of my consumption stopped me in my tracks.
On YouTube:
LISTENING:
Laura Marling and Palace. All about balance.
Thank you for waiting for me! November was pretty tough, but we made it through. I am excited to be back and missed you guys. Hope you are well! What have you been loving this month?
Love,
