Hey friends, how are you? The last time we spoke it was the first week of the year and somehow we are already in March. I spent the first few months of the year forging new routines, going to bed early, exercising and generally trying to be a more well rested, well balanced person. In doing so, I didn’t leave myself much time to think about writing on this little corner of the internet. With the sun finally making an appearance in the UK, I find myself with a little more motivation to bring back the weekly posts.
DOING:
As a chronic people pleaser, my New Year’s Resolution for 2025 was to say no more and I have fallen flat at the first hurdle and February somehow ended up the busiest month. Saying yes has always been my default and it's how I've grown the most and learned so much. I'm starting to realise that saying no is just as important, and February was a much needed reminder of that.
I did manage a few weekends of no social time which left me feeling inspired. We went to the Alps (my first time seeing mountains! So beautiful) and had a delicious weekend offgrid at Unplugged. We stayed at Gruff which is nearby to where I grew up, but I saw the area with fresh eyes. I never really appreciated home for what it had, I spent most of my teenage years complaining about what it didn’t have. (ps code UNPLUGLEXIELAH should get you 15% off if you’re thinking about a stay)
READING:
I started the year off strong with Donna Tartt’s Secret History. I had several nightmares about the book, but maybe that’s a sign of a good book? I could not stop thinking about it. I then moved onto On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong which broke my heart and more recently Simple Passion by Annie Ernaux. I am currently jumping between Paris by Julian Green and dipping into audiobooks for the first time. I’ve been listening to Anthony Bourdain’s Kitchen Confidential, which feels like the perfect introduction to the world of listening. It’s such a different world from my own, but his frankness is a good reminder not to take things so seriously.
WEARING:
My winter uniform has been consistent of the usual loafers, low rise jeans and oversized jumpers. I picked up these pajamas from cotton on on a whim and haven’t taken them off. I wish they were suitable for outside wear because they’re that comfy. In other good trouser news, these uniqlo barrel jeans are a fantastic fit. I got them in every colour. When you know, you know.
LOVING:
My morning iced matcha with little star ice cubes. Don’t hate me, but I think I prefer it to hot matcha. The stars make me so happy too.
The colour yellow. I know butter yellow is the colour of the moment, but it really does make me happy.
I never thought I’d say this, but movement has become one of my favorite parts of the day. Exercise always felt like a chore and something I didn’t want to do, but my biggest take away of the year so far has been how fun it is to move my body.
I’m training for another marathon happening on the first week of April (kind of keeping it a secret on socials because runtok scares me and I’m not particularly fast, so running has felt better as an offline experience). I’ve been balancing it with yoga and pilates weekly, and it feels so good to feel strong and switch off for an hour a day.
WATCHING:
When we last spoke I was deep in the Shrinking hole. We finished that series in about a week before moving on to Ted Lasso. The world of Apple TV has me hooked, and we’re currently deep into The Morning Show.
I also rewatched Before Sunrise to make me feel summery (I love this video edit </3).
LISTENING:
catch you next week! ( I promise)
